I have performed hydroacoustic surveys using two horizontal split-beam Biosonic transducers (201 and 208 kHz) on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.
I have deployed, maintained, range tested, and designed passive acoustic telemetry arrays using VR2W receivers for a number of studies using a variety of transmitters (Vemco: V7, V9, V13, V13P, V16, V16P).
Nortek 600 kHz ADCP
We used and deployed Antillean fish traps for a number of projects to catch fish for animal tracking studies.
For a pilot study on Phantom Lake, WI, we deployed Fyke nets to see if it was a viable way to catch dogfish and carp.
Gill net deployed on Illinois River to supplement electro-fishing surveys. Grass carp pictured here.
I have led samplings of electro fishing assessments on warm water streams in SE Wisconsin.
Created by Dr. Koenig (http://dx.doi.org/10.5343/bms.2015.1010) we are using these to capture grouper spawning on video.
Traditional rod and reel or hand line setups are also effective ways of catching fish, such as peacock flounder
I have worked on and captained a variety of vessels, and have over five years experience operating boats on the Mississippi and Illinois River, inland lakes, Lake Michigan, and in the Caribbean and Atlantic ocean. I Completed the US Power Squadron Boating Course (March 5, 2014).
Boats operated: 30 ft Island Hopper 380 hp diesel engine, 28 ft ProKat twin 225 hp engines, 27 ft Used Coast Guard vessel with twin 250 hp engines, 23 ft Mako twin 150 hp engines, 20 ft Angler 150 hp engine, 17 ft Whaler 90 hp engine, 17 ft Twin Vee 50 hp engine.
YSI EXO Sonde
I have maintained and calibrated YSI water quality sensors, which included pH and Chl a. We used this to compliment fish sampling and hydroacoustic sampling efforts
Oxygen Sensors
I have used miniDOT oxygen loggers to examine variance in dissolved oxygen levels in a shallow lagoon, coral reef, native segrass beds, and invasive seagrass beds.
Temperature Sensors
I have used Onset Hobo Loggers for long term and short term temperature deployments.
Seabird CTD 25 and CTD 25plus
Maintained and processed CTD data for a number of projects. Maintenance and pH calibrations need to be performed routinely
Fluorometer
I have used and maintained a Wetlab Fluotometer to measure the one meter of water above the coral reef.
Hydrolab
I have used, maintained, and calibrated the Hydrolab for water quality projects.
St. Thomas Data Buoy
With assistance from the company that maintained the buoys
Niskin
Allows for water samples to be collected at discrete depths
Secchi Disk
Not all equipment needs to be hundreds of dollars to be useful.
